VP, Medical Director of Employee Health and Wellbeing

SUMMARY:
Plans, directs, measures and expands all aspects of the Employee Health and Wellbeing programs employees and maintains and promotes a culture of safety.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Develops and implements programs to improve the health and wellbeing of employees including, but not limited to: preplacement assessments, vaccinations, TB screening, workers’ compensation injury evaluation and management, blood and body fluid exposure management, fitness for duty and return to work evaluations, employee assistance program (EAP) referrals, programs to prevent exposure to work hazards, and programs to promote employee wellbeing (including stress, obesity, and physical inactivity).
2. Approves and oversees standards and procedures for occupational health management (pre-employment physicals, drug testing, immunizations, work related injury management, etc.).
3. Responsible for the daily operation and overall management of the Employee Health and Wellness Centers including ongoing development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines for personal health and workers’ compensation injury management procedures.
4. Provides supervision and medical consultation for Nurse Practitioners and Occupational Health Nurses. Evaluates and counsels staff relative to performance and conduct. Participates in selection, orientation and training of new providers.
5. Provides leadership in the area of workers’ compensation, including researching and developing workers’ compensation policies and programs in conjunction with Risk Management In areas of medical management, prevention, compliance, defense strategies, settlement processes and financial management.
6. Creates and ensures updated workers’ compensation management training, including injury reporting for providers, HR managements and front line managers.
7. Leads the workers’ compensation settlement process including collaborating with risk management, legal and finance.
8. Provides strategic leadership on the company’s employee health plan strategy and services, including vendor management to optimize their efficiency and effectiveness and strategies to increase member engagement in their health and wellness in order to build a resilient and productive workforce.
9. Makes recommendations for the annual benefit plan offerings for employees and dependent members.
10. Creates and updates annual health assessments that align to health plan strategy to incentivize wellness and promote onsite Employee Health and Wellness Center services.
11. In collaboration with HR, leads strategies to promote other aspects of employee wellbeing in addition to physical and emotional health, including financial security, personal and career growth and social connectedness.
12. Develops and consults on up-to-date infection control prevention and response guidelines for influenza and training for GI/Norovirus and other infections, and conducts annual update of this guidance. Ensures that the communities coordinate and communicate well with leadership teams and corporate support partners.
13. Oversees company’s compliance to DOT medical examinations, including provider training and certification and programs to reduce driver health risks.
14. Oversees company’s employee drug testing program.
15. Collaborates with Continuing Care and HR leaders to develop strategies to monitor and reduce caregiver stress.
16. Develops reporting and provides analysis to evaluate and measure value on investment of all programs.
17. Collaborates with community HR Directors, corporate HR leaders and legal partners to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
18. Provides strategic partnership with other related HR initiatives such as the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, including corporate social responsibility (CSR).
19. May provide clinical coverage as necessary.
20. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Qualified candidates will be an MD with board-certification in Occupational Medicine and preferably an additional primary care specialty such as Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with a minimum of 5 years of patient care experience.
• An advanced degree in business and/or public health is preferred.
• Additional training on health plan benefit design is preferred.
• Candidate must have successful experience in providing strategic leadership and management of occupational health, employee health and safety, and workers’ compensation programs. Must be a forward-thinking leader who brings state of the art programs and services to the organization.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Must be comfortable and effective working within a matrixed environmental with share resources and use influencing and negotiating skills to create buy-in.
• Established credibility, trust and strong interpersonal relationships and energizes a highly engaged and high performance team. Leads by example to establish a “can do” culture of health and wellbeing.
• Demonstrated success in articulating, evaluating and reporting goals and achievements, areas of improvement and measuring value on investment.
• Remains current on best practices and evidenced based strategies for employee injury prevention, infection prevention and control, and health and wellness plan design and engagement strategies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises Employee Health Nurse Practitioners and Occupational Health Nurses.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: N/A
Strong communication skills required, including verbal, written and presentation skills tailored to multiple audiences.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS: Maintenance of board certification and state licenses.
